Adriana Baltazar

Regardless of my experimentation with media, my interest is in human relationships and their effect on each party involved. The questions most dominantly explored in my work are those concerned with how much we are shaped by our environments vs. how much we shape our environments. This interaction is a delicate balance present in the way we relate to society, to nature, or specific individuals. Often, I stand as the observer watching an abundance of activities formulate the city´s culture before my eyes. I became fascinated by the power and energy that went into a small affair as well as a large gathering. I saw that it was only a select set of individuals who took time out of their normal lives to invest selflessly into their communities. I sought them out to find out why. My most recent project/body of work, funded by a grant from Chicago´s Community Arts Assistance Program, allowed me to capture some of them in portraits. Though I was not able to complete as many as I had originally planned, I am happy with the pieces I was able to complete.
